A Peculiar People

Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people;

once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

1 Peter 2: 10

This week we are back in 1 Peter but before we jump into chapter 2, we should look back at the last verse of chapter 1 which says "...but the word of the Lord remains forever. And this word is the good news that was preached to you." Peter is reminding his readers that the gospel remains forever. We spent last weekend reflecting on the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus and we continue remembering because it is this good news that enables us to live a life that glorifies Him.

Peter calls us to live as holy people, putting away malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy and slander (vs 1) and instead living in a way that proclaims the excellencies of Jesus (vs 9) even though we are sojourners and exiles (vs 11).

At ResKids, we'll be learning about the lives of men and women who chose to be brave and courageous for God, despite challenges and difficulties. This week, we'll look at the life of Pandita Ramabai, an Indian scholar, feminist, educator and founder of Mukti Mission (which has a connection with our own church community!).
