Life Hacks: Generosity

Honor the LORD with

your wealth and with the

best part of everything you produce.

Proverbs 3:9

Many of you know that the preschool to Grade 2 class has been reading through a little book called Wonder and Wisdom. It's an introduction to Psalms and Proverbs for young children but I like to use it when I prepare and plan for my lessons and devotions too!

As I read through this week's lesson on "Being Generous", the authors wrote this conclusion:

When we take what God has given us (whatever that might be) and

share it generously and joyfully,

we're putting more of God's love into the world.

What a great reminder - if we share whatever God has given us, we're putting His love into the world. It's easy for us to be discouraged when we see all the needs in our world. It feels like an impossible problem and it is impossible - for us. But God... God is the sovereign creator who knows all and sustains all. He's given us skills and resources to serve and bless others. We're not called to be everything for everyone but we are called to be something to someone. When we are tempted to be self-centred, or when we are discouraged by the weight of the problems of the world, we remember how much God has given us and we remember that we glorify and spread His love when we give of our time and resources.

As we study poverty and generosity on Sunday, reflect on God's goodness in our lives and pray about how you can go out and give to others. Remind your kids that we get to put God's love into the world each and every time we serve, provide and minister to those around us.

Print out and work through this week's devotion with your kids. There's a short write-up, some reflection questions and a colouring page!

Here are some extra resources for you this week:
